Half of the kids at school didn't know who I was supposed to be.
Most of the adults got it, especially the younger ones.
I was asked three times if I was supposed to be Elvis.
A typical conversation went like this:
"Great costume, Alanna! Who are you supposed to be?"
"I'm Freddie Mercury."
"...who?"
"The lead singer of Queen?"
"Oh, I love that band! They wrote We Are the Champions, right?"
"Uh, yeah..."
Uncultured heathens. I didn't shave for a month prepping for this role and THIS is how you react to my beautiful costume?! And don't you insult me by saying you love the band. You don't even know the LYRICS to We Are the Champions other than the chorus! Hell, all you know is the 'we are the champions'! Ugh. C'mon! It's not like Freddie Mercury is an obscure figure!
